Starting a Recitation

The quickest way in is /quran play. Both of its options are searchable as you type: start typing a reciter's name and the list narrows as you go, and the surah box matches on name, English meaning, or number — so kahf, the cave and 18 all find Surah 18. Voltcord joins your voice channel and recites the whole Quran on a loop from wherever you started.

Neither option is required, and leaving one out gives you a sensible default rather than a surprise: nothing chosen means Tawfeeq ibn Sa`id as-Sawa'igh from Surah 1, a reciter on its own starts them at Surah 1, and a surah on its own gets Tawfeeq reciting it. Both dropdowns also carry a 🔀 Any / Random entry, so being surprised stays something you choose rather than something that happens when you leave a box empty.

If a recitation is already streaming, your pick doesn't interrupt it — it slots in to play next, and the confirmation says which surah and reciter that will be, with an Open Player button on it so pause, skip, loop and the queue are one click away.

The Player

Run /quran player to open the live panel. If nothing is playing, it shows a Start Listening button — press it and Voltcord joins your voice channel and starts reciting the whole Quran, in order, on a loop. Before starting, you can also press Reciter or Surah to browse and pick who reads it and where it starts; leave both unset and it defaults to Tawfeeq ibn Sa`id as-Sawa'igh from Surah 1.

Once something is playing, the same panel carries buttons for pause/resume, skip, stop, cycling the loop mode, and the queue — no commands needed for any of it, and the buttons stay live for as long as the session runs. Pressing the queue button opens the full queue as a private, paged list; anyone can read it, including on an admin-run radio station.

Below the buttons sit two dropdowns, Reciter and Surah, for changing what plays next. Nothing you pick from them takes effect on its own — the current recitation and the queue are untouched until you press Confirm, which queues your reciter and surah together to play next and resets the dropdowns for your next request. Confirm stays greyed out until you have picked something. The dropdowns page through the full list of 59 reciters and 114 surahs rather than offering a search box; Discord only offers live search on a command's own options, not on a message's dropdown, so if you already know the name you want, /quran play and /quran radio both search the full list as you type.

Starting a Radio (Admins)

Server admins (or anyone holding the server's configured Admin Role, set under Settings → Moderation) can run /quran radio to have Voltcord join and recite in any voice or Stage channel without needing to be in it themselves. Everything sits on one screen: dropdowns for the channel, where the live panel posts, the reciter and the starting surah, with a summary above them that updates the moment you change anything. Nothing takes you to a second page. Reciter and surah can also be typed straight at the command, searchable as you type, and the screen opens with your choice already filled in — leave them alone and it uses Tawfeeq ibn Sa`id as-Sawa'igh from Surah 1.

A session started this way runs as a continuous radio: it never pauses when the channel empties, so whoever walks in hears wherever the recitation currently is. Once it's live, it's the exact same panel described above, with a 📻 Radio badge — anyone can view it, but only admins can control it. A member without permission who runs /quran radio sees the player instead, with a note explaining that radio is admin-only.

The same thing is available from the dashboard's Quran page — pick a channel, and optionally a reciter and starting surah, with searchable dropdowns. It controls the exact same session Discord does, so pausing, skipping or queuing from one surface shows up instantly on the other.

Stats

The live panel also shows how long this server has streamed in total, the total across every server running Voltcord, a breakdown of radio vs. on-demand listening time, the most-streamed reciter overall, and how many surahs have been recited in full — all cumulative, growing as the module gets used.

Staying Connected

Voltcord doesn't leave when the channel empties — it pauses instead, and picks the recitation back up automatically the moment anyone rejoins, so a session survives everyone briefly stepping out. A Stop button on the panel ends it and leaves right away.

Voltcord joins deafened. It only ever plays audio and never listens to anything in a voice channel, so it turns receiving off entirely — you can see this on the member list, and it has no effect on playback.

Sessions also survive Voltcord itself restarting. If the bot goes down and comes back — a deploy, for example — every session that was live automatically rejoins its channel and resumes with the same reciter, queue and loop mode. Only the one surah that was playing at the moment of the restart starts over from the beginning; everything queued after it is unaffected.

Reading the Quran

/quran reader is for reading rather than listening. It opens a board showing one ayah — the Arabic, a translation beneath it, and which surah, juz and page you're on. Everything else happens on that same board: nothing opens a second message, and every screen has a way back to the ayah you were on.

Run it with no options and it picks up wherever you last were. Give it a surah to start at that surah's first ayah, or a surah and an ayah to land on exactly that verse. Your place and your chosen translation follow you between servers.

The top row moves you around: ◀ Previous and ▶ Next step one ayah at a time and carry on into the next surah rather than stopping at the end of one; 🔢 Go to ayah opens a box to type a number, which beats a dropdown when a surah runs to 286 verses; and 📚 Surah opens a paginated picker.

Four buttons sit under each ayah. 📖 Tafsir opens the commentary, paged so it stays readable — its heading names a range of ayahs, because the commentary often covers several together rather than the single verse you opened it on. There are 20 commentaries in 6 languages, and several works appear in more than one: Ibn Kathir is there in Arabic, Bengali, Urdu and English. Pick a language and an edition from the two dropdowns on the page itself, so the commentary stays in front of you while you switch. Long ones run to twenty pages or more, so 🔢 Go to page jumps straight to one.

🌐 Translation works the same way — 126 editions across 67 languages, a language dropdown and an edition dropdown on one screen. Both remember your choice for next time. 📋 Context shows the two ayahs either side with yours marked, for when a verse only makes sense alongside its neighbours. 🔊 Listen recites that one ayah in your voice channel — it will not interrupt a player or radio session that is already running, so stop that first.

The board is posted publicly so others in the channel can follow along, but only the person who opened it can press its buttons. Anyone else is told to open their own. Quran text, translations and commentary are provided by the Quran Foundation.

Stage Mode

Starting a session on a Stage channel — from /quran play or /quran player while you're in one, or via /quran radio's Stage toggle — has Voltcord start the Stage session itself and become a speaker so it can be heard. The stage's topic tracks the current surah — "Quran: {surah}" — updating live as tracks change, rather than staying fixed. Every control on the panel works exactly the same way on a Stage session as on a regular voice channel.
